Blame It on Boston

I missed my usual weekend post because I was getting ready for a work trip to Boston. I fly home tomorrow after 2.5 days of training and socializing. Got some cool pictures from our rooftop venue tonight:

This is my fourth trip to Boston, but the last time was more than 20 years ago. Definitely one of my favorite cities.

So I’ve already sort of forgotten last week except for the notes I made along the way, most of which had to do with me eating salad from the garden. And the weekend was rainy and cooler, and I spent most of it doing wash and packing.

But I did start thyme and creeping thyme seeds, which sprouted quickly, and I replanted all the oregano I had pulled out, on the side of the house.

Meals last week:

Sunday: chicken parm with spaghetti, steamed broccoli and raw carrots

I made marinara sauce using garden tomatoes from the freezer (that had been roasted, etc.), garden oregano (dried) and the very last basil leaf, plus garlic and onion. It was too “tomatoey” for Tom but the boys and I liked it. I should have been tasting it throughout, but I was too busy. I threw in some sugar at the end after the face Tom made.

Monday: scrounge: scrambled eggs and a blueberry bagel for me

Tuesday: grilled chicken, grandma noodles and baked potatoes (Tom cooked)

Wednesday: Stella Pizza

Thursday: taco salad with garden Crispino iceberg lettuce and garden cilantro. We were out of taco seasoning so I made a close approximation of it with spices we had.

Friday: Wawa

Saturday: scrounge: rotisserie chicken, Caesar salad (from garden) and buffalo chicken naan pizza were options

Sunday: Lasagna “rollettes” from Wegmans in my Bolognese gravy, and more garden Caesar salad

Lunches: bought every in-office day, though one day I only spent $2. Monday’s featured still more garden lettuce.

There was a frost warning last Monday night; I didn’t do anything and we only got down to 36. However, I saw some headlines about NJ growers losing peach and cherry crops.

F. crushed a tomato plant with a softball. I put the unaffected stem in water and am hoping it will grow roots.

Back to my family, puppy, bird feeder and plants tomorrow… and the first farmers’ market of the season is Saturday!
