This was a rough week. There were a couple of days where I felt like I used to when I had infants… like the routine was never-ending and I wouldn’t have even a second to just breathe and think. Just a stream of things to do and then collapse into bed.
That’s probably because 8-week-old puppies are infants and I had forgotten how it is. Constant pooping and peeing. They had to get medicine for their loose poops. The pee and poop caused some extra laundry loads. Rocco turned out to be extremely afraid of the pups and snarled if they came up to him, so we had to keep them apart. On two days, we had work being done in the kitchen, so we had to keep the pups away from those guys. All these factors made it harder to get them outside to do their business, not to mention that no one wanted to be outside because it was 98 degrees and smoky. Hazardously smoky.

On top of that, there was the usual chauffeuring to the pool and the gym, runs to the supermarket because we just never seem to have enough food, and heat wave garden watering, and I had to take T to T-Mobile one night for a phone issue. And F started a new job of dog walking for another dog.
Monday night was really nice, though. That was the last good day before the heat wave. I was able to make it to the pool and get my laps in. And I’m here now, Sunday evening, and it’s perfect weather.
Friday brought some fun and an escape from puppyland. I was at work in the city all day and then went out to eat with friends and to a concert (Patty Griffin). It was just what I needed (a lot of laughs at dinner, a big frozen margarita and soulful music).
Saturday I was up early for a swim meet. For the first time, I served as a timer. It was fun to be more involved and better than just sitting around in between N’s races. After the meet (which was four hours), I was on puppy duty while F did other things. I just chilled in her room (probably the coldest room in the house), played with them and cleaned up after them, and played my newest Fetch game and listened to music, all afternoon. When I could sneak away I cleaned up and did wash. Once the puppies are gone I am doing a deep clean of everything!

The heat has kept the garden paused, for the most part. I did have one hot cherry pepper turn red enough to pick, and a few beans.

In last week’s post, I forgot to mention how N told me one night how much he loves saving money and that he thinks it’s important to be frugal. He used that word! This was after he spent about a half hour trying to find a coupon code that would work on our Taco Bell order. (Hoping we don’t have cyclosporiasis.)
Meals this week:
Monday: leftover Wawa sandwich from lunch, apres pool
Tuesday: beef tacos; a mozzarella and basil sandwich for me; grilled cheese and broccoli for F
Wednesday: quesadillas
Thursday: Chinese takeout from Dragon House
Friday: I went out (Jalapeno’s) and the rest ordered pizza.
Saturday: no one was really around; I had chicken nuggets
Lunches:
Monday and Thursday: went to Wawa because repairmen were in the kitchen
Tuesday: trail mix and yogurt
Wednesday: brought a turkey sandwich
Friday: bought
Spending: 2 Uber rides for N because no one could take him to the orthodontist; $15 on pee pads; a $52 fine from college for T; about $40 on makeup for me; $36 on T shirts and beer at the adoption event we attended today at a local brewery (which was very fun and likely resulted in adoption for Aspen).
Heading home now to make dinner and take over puppy duties while F goes to a bday party. We are down to just Aspen as Cedar went home with his adopted today. Hoping to plant some bean seeds tonight.
