After a rainy, gloomy week, the sun came out Sunday and the temperature hit 71 degrees. I spent some time outside topping off a planter and adding compost, and then sowing three types of carrot seed (Scarlet Nantes, Royal Chantenay and Little Finger). All the straw on the strawberries — I brushed that off. I also used compost to make compost tea, which I will use for the seedlings.
I also relocated my birdbath bowl next to the feeder, to see if the birds prefer that location. I’ve never seen one use it. Bird highlight of the week: finally got a cardinal on camera.
Inside, I potted on a few onions. I only had a few clean pots to use — need to clean more. I also gifted two tomato seedlings to a friend.

Soon it will be time to start hardening off the lettuce and the onions. I never did buy any seed potatoes… maybe I will skip them this year. Not sure if I mentioned it already but I did start some herbs inside. They are taking time to germinate.
Saturday was for more mundane tasks like grocery shopping (using my $50 I got from Fetch!) and decluttering. I also had to take F to get softball cleats, socks and a belt.
Friday, I was sick (still am) and took off from work. By the end of the day I felt okay enough to bake some bread. Got a decent rise! I’m glad I didn’t try to work. I felt terrible on Thursday and slept almost 12 hours that night.

My strawberry jam turned out to be pretty tasty! I had it on my toast nearly every morning.

I’d say this was a more productive week than many this winter, meaning I actually got some stuff done after work, at least until I got sick. Monday night, I sewed two items of F’s clothing. Tuesday night, I blanched and froze broccoli. Wednesday night, I cleaned out the fridge. More of this to come, with the sun setting at 7 now.
One majorly frustrating thing this week: both N’s and F’s bikes were stolen. In different situations, from different places, and probably not on the same day. I can’t even get into the details, it’s just so… dumb. Suffice to say that some of it was bad luck, but some of it was our ongoing inability to take good care of our possessions. I say “our” because I’m guilty of this at times too. I can’t really explain it. I guess we all just get tired and there’s a lot to do and a lot of “stuff” to take care of. And the bikes seem to occupy a weird category of very expensive yet also not prized the way, say, the phones are. They use them a lot, but not so much when it’s freezing and snowy, and they aren’t completely dependent on them to get places.
Meals this week:
Monday: tortellini/linguine with meatballs
Tuesday: baked lemon garlic chicken breasts from Wegmans, plus tater tots
Wednesday: Ellio’s pizza
Thursday: eggs, sausage, toast (with jam!) and tater tots
Friday: McDonald’s
Saturday: Pizza at Grandmom M’s house.
Sunday: Spaghetti at my parents’. We brought Rocco and he was such a GOOD BOY, not barking at anyone. There’s hope for him yet.
Tuesday lunch: turkey, avocado and cheddar sandwich
Wednesday lunch: bought
Thursday lunch: leftover chicken
Friday lunch: pasta fagioli from freezer (the last of it)
Onto another week. Today was even warmer than yesterday. Love it.
