My frozen yard and my cold heart both melted a little this weekend.
Temps close to 50 on Saturday started the thaw. I went out back to enjoy the mildness and lay eyes on the garden. I hadn’t been in the yard for weeks. It was heartening to see some creeping thyme, perfectly alive under the block of snow I dislodged.

Everything else was still mostly snow-covered.

The Amish Paste tomato seeds that I started sprouted this week, proving that my seed saving methods of last summer were sound! Very exciting. I wanted to start more seeds today, but just didn’t get to it.
The sunsets were pretty all this week. And it’s not dark out at all when I leave work. I love being on the upswing of the year.

This three-day weekend was a good one. The thaw certainly helped. Tom also seemed to go a little kick of being helpful/cleaning on Saturday, for Valentine’s Day I think, which I really appreciated. He and I did a romantic Costco run too. Capped off the day with Holy City Publick House and some ice cream and Mare of Easttown.
Sunday was mostly spent getting ready for a get-together I hosted at night. F and I braved Trader Joe’s and its stupid tiny parking lot to get some goodies. I also baked cookies. I attempted to make cheese fondue, which I have made before. But I screwed it up somehow and it didn’t integrate properly. (Not that that kept me from eating it the next day. It still tasted great and I wasn’t going to waste good cheese and wine.)

Good times catching up with some of the west side crew.

So on Monday, I was tired and maybe feeling the wine a little. I didn’t do a whole lot. T needed a ride back to school; after that, I took N and F to Goodwill. They got some clothes, but not this:

Later, I made pasta fagioli, so I could use up Sunday night’s leftover white wine and not have to buy another bottle. It was delicious and I even got Tom to eat some.

Just remembered that I baked bread on Saturday too. Still not much of a rise… I need to watch some videos on technique. Still tasty though.
I had some wins this week: remembered to return some pants to TJ Maxx that didn’t fit F; used $6 in rewards at CVS; used more than 1,000 points at Wawa. One annoying loss: got charged a late fee by T’s college because I’m not used to thinking in semesters and uh… didn’t set up a new payment plan on time.
I also used my credit card to buy new contacts. I get points that I use towards the balance and I pay off the balance each month.
Meals this week:
Monday: home fries, sausage, toast, scrambled eggs
Tuesday: Tom made a really excellent ground beef and egg noodles dish, with a special kick. Plus mashed potatoes and corn.
Wednesday: scrounge: chicken nuggets and corn for me
Thursday: scrounge: scrambled eggs, sausage and toast for me
Friday: more scrounge: peanut butter crackers and some rice cakes
Tuesday lunch: tuna. Wednesday: Wegmans chicken, broccoli and quinoa bowl (not cheap but tasty). Thursday: Wawa wrap. Friday: bought at work.
Saw this article and my first thought was: Well done, nonconsumers! I continue to not buy hardly anything besides food.
